High Performance Metals
Titanium:
The natural color of titanium is gray and resembles stainless steel. Titanium is recognized for its high strength-to-weight ratio. Without sacrificing strength and durability, titanium is 45% lighter than gold. Stronger than steel, titanium can take a beating against every day wear and tear.
Titanium is mostly marketed as being scratch-resistant, however with normal wear small scratches and scuffs do appear. Although titanium is very hard and durable, some abrasive materials such as rocks or sand can scratch the surface. However, these scratches are not permanent. The good news is that any local jeweler in your area can polish off those scratches easily. With a little polishing, titanium shines like new again.
Unlike many popular metals, titanium is an inert metal and is not chemically active. This prevents titanium from oxidizing or tarnishing over time. Because of its inertness, titanium is completely hypoallergenic and is a perfect choice for people with metal allergies.
Titanium rings are constructed from solid bars of titanium, which results in a perfectly round, seamless ring. Due to the hardness and strength of titanium, it is more difficult to cut and shape than other popular metals. Because of the unique nature, it is almost impossible to re-size a titanium ring.
Black Zirconium:
Black Zirconium is a sleek and bold alternative to traditional wedding bands. Black Zirconium is a strong, corrosion resistant metal and will not wear or fade. The metal Zirconium is a gray-white shiny metal, resembling Titanium in appearance, still heavier and resembling more precious metals in its weight and feel. When heat is applied, a black, oxidized, ceramic-like coating forms and is extremely scratch resistant and durable. Unlike other black rings, Black Zirconium rings are black all the way through. In the rare instance that the ring does scratch or chip, more black material will show underneath. Zirconium does not conduct heat well and is relatively inert, making it a great choice for people with base metal allergies.
Cobalt Chrome:
Cobalt Chrome wedding bands are relatively new to the jewelry industry and are unlike any metal used before. Cobalt Chrome features many unique characteristics that set it apart from the rest. The most obvious being a brilliant near white luster. Cobalt Chrome is much whiter than titanium wedding bands and are as white, if not whiter than platinum. These wedding bands have a natural and long-lasting luster that will never fade or discolor over time. With Cobalt Chrome wedding bands, comfort is not sacrificed for style. Similar to the weight and feel of a gold wedding band, Cobalt Chrome wedding bands are very comfortable to wear.
Cobalt Chrome wedding bands are extremely durable and resilient. Because of the hardness and strength of this metal, it is proven to be more scratch resistant than other metals used in the jewelry industry. Along with the immaculate shine and durability,
Tantalum:
Tantalum got its name from Tantalus, a villain in Greek mythology. Zeus made Tantalus stand in a pool of water below a fruit tree but made him unable to drink from the pool or eat from the tree. His punishment was to forever be kept from what he needed most, despite it being right in front of him.
Tantalum is a sleek and modern choice for your wedding ring. Tantalum is very rare ensuring you will have a one of a kind symbol of your love.
What is it? Tantalum is an element on the periodic table and is considered a technology critical material. Tantalum capacitors are found in smartphones, tablets, and computers. Extremely rare, the primary resources of tantalum could potentially be exhausted within the next fifty years.
Unique Characteristics: Tantalum is a beautiful gray color with a hint of slate blue. It’s that great slate tone that’s darker than titanium but not black like zirconium. It is quite dense, with a weight similar to platinum. While many alternative metals create difficulties with resizing, tantalum is quite malleable and easily resized up to one size depending on the customization. Tantalum is hypoallergenic, and will not corrode or react with exposure to everyday use or chemicals.
Wear and Care: Tantalum rings can be worn in all kinds of environments and conditions. The metal will scuff and show wear over time but holds up to a great deal of abuse without cracking, breaking, bending, etc. The color will not fade or change over time.
